where A thru D are determined from...
A. The first Tim Horton's coffee and donut shop opened in Hamilton, Ontario in 19A4 - and the rest is history.

B. The first Starbucks opened in the Picke Place Market in downtown Seattle in 19XY. B= X + Y.

C. Tim Horton, the hockey player and founder of the store that bears his name, played for several teams in the NHL, yet he is known best for playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Sabres. In Toronto, he wore jersey number X; in Buffalo, he wore Y. C = X - 2Y.
D. Lewis Black, one of my favourite comedians, has a brilliant rant about "The End of the Universe", which uses Starbucks to explain how we've arrived at the end of the universe. For D, research that Lewis Black was born on August 30, 1X4Y. D = X-Y. For Lewis' comedy routine, click on the pic.

E. The Second Cup prides itself as Canada's largest specialty coffee retailer since 19XY. E = X-Y.
