l'elemento più caratterizzante del carnevale d'Ivrea è sicuramente la battaglia delle arance. La nascita della manifestazione non ha un'avvio determinato, ma è probabilmente la progressiva evoluzione del lancio dei coriandoli
Nei proclami carnevaleschi di metà 800 si legge
"E' vietato di gettare aranci o altro simile con particolare veemenza"
dal 1947 la battaglia delle arance inizia ad avere una sua struttura, anche se nei racconti dei ragazzi del tempo, la battaglia non era concentrata nelle piazze ma avveniva ovunque da un balcone fosse lanciata una provocazione
Oggi, nel 2018, la battaglia coinvolge circa 10000 aranceri distribuiti e organizzati in 9 squadre a piedi e circa 40 carri di aranceri che attraversano le piazze di tiro.
