Welcome to the wonderful Northern American Legion State Forest and Clear Lake.
This geocache can be accessed from the Clear Lake day use area, the Clear Lake campground or the Raven Trailhead. A state park pass will be needed for the campground. A number of hiking trails will lead you to GZ, it is up to you to pick one. You could even get to it by boat if you like!
The trail from the campground begins in the beach & boat launch parking area. Enjoy a 15-20 minute hike around beautiful Clear Lake.
Once you find the site you will have an opportunity to admire two sections of Clear Lake at once. Time it right and catch either a sunrise or sunset.
Clear Lake is completely within the state forest and with the exception of one summer camp and a few homes on islands out in the main body of the lake, there are no buildings or private properties on the lake. The lake is 846 acres and as deep as 95 feet in a few spots. It is popular for SCUBA diving, water skiing, boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and even some sailing. There are a few remote campsites on the east side of the lake. You will surely see some loons and eagles among lots of other wildlife.
The geocache is availavble in the winter although snowshoes may be helpful. The area is open for gun and bow hunting so use caution and dress accordingly during hunting season.
A special little present has been left for the FTF.
The Wisconsin DNR Geocache Placement Notification form has been submitted to Sara Pearson.
