Lake Aniwhenua Reserve

Lake Aniwhenua is a man-made lake formed by a hydro-electric dam, situated between Kaingaroa Forest and Te Urewera National Park and is definitely off the beaten track located in an isolated part of the Bay of Plenty.
Long and narrow, the lake is mostly shallow (the average depth is 2.5m) and when the lake behind the hydro dam was first filled it was famous for huge rainbow trout. Those days have passed but trout are still plentiful making it an ideal fishing spot. The lake is a popular water ski area and is also a freedom camping spot providing basic toilet & shower facilities and a cooking shelter.
This region is steeped in history and culture. The Maori Ngati Manawa tribes have lived here for centuries and their culture still thrives. There are also many sites of historic significance, including the oldest Maori rock art in the country.
The Cache
You're looking for a silver magnetic nano above head height accessed by standing on the fixed seating inside the cooking shelter. The cache is center left and a bit of a reach - please be stealthy. I'm happy to accept a sneaky photo log of the cache if the shelter is in use but I know those purists amongst you will find a way of signing this off.
