Geocache Description:

Can you find the two identical penmen?

The above poster, "Find the Two Identical Penmen" was bought at a poster sale at Grenfell College back in 1989.

It went up on my dorm room door, and it was common for me to open the door only to find a total stranger on the other side... trying to find the two identical penmen.  I'd go on to class, and more than once, that stranger would still be there over an hour later ... trying to find the two identical penmen.

This poster has brought me so much fun.  There are definitely two identical penmen there.  I've found them.  :)

The poster currently resides in my high school classroom. Every year it claims new victims (a.k.a. curious students) ... trying to find the two identical penmen.

So... are you up for the challenge?  Can YOU find the two identical penmen?

If you can find the penmen identical twins, you can add a geocaching smile on your map - to go with the pure elation from the satisfaction of solving the penmen puzzle. It is recommended that you click on the penmen picture above, to take you to a high resolution version version of the picture which can be printed at the detail you would need.

There is a geocache hidden at:

N47 3A.BCD   W052 4E.FGH

Once you've found the two identical penmen, notice where they are situated on the penmen "grid" of over 1000 penmen.

Let the penman at top left hand corner be designated "01" on the up/down axis and "01" on the left/right axis.

That means that the penman at the bottom left hand corner is designated "30" on the up/down axis and "01" on the left/right.

(Note that, going left to right, there are not the same number of penmen on each line.  Some penmen are baby penmen; penmen drawn on paper by another penman do not count since these are drawings, not actual penmen.)

Now:  The only clue that you are getting to finding the two identical penmen is that they are not on the same line; one penman is higher up than his identical twin, found on a lower line.

For the "higher penman", he is located at QR down, ST across to the right.

For the "lower penman", he is located at WX down, YZ across to the right.

Using these values of Q, R, S, T, W, X, Y and ...

For the geocache coordinates:

N47 3A.BCD   W052 4E.FGH

X - Y

B = T - S

C = S + Q

D = R - S

E = W - Q

F = W - Y

G = Y + S

H = Z - Y - S

Really and truly...

GOOD LUCK!!!
