This Geocache is placed near the summit of a Marilyn called 'The Bochel' which has an elevation of 1612 ft / 491m. Hill walking can be dangerous and you do so at your own risk so please allocate enough time for the journey and make sure you have all the correct equipment and know how to use it. The walk to the summit is approximately 1.5 miles and involves a short but very steep ascent.
Follow the main track from the parking area and then cross the bridge to the South side of the River Livet. Continue to follow the waymarked trail through the field and towards the gate which I have created a waypoint for. Now you have a steep ascent through the heather to the summit where you will find a small cairn and be treated to excellent views of the surrounding Cairngorms.
Glenlivet, which was acquired by The Crown Estate in 1937, lies at the Northern fringe of the Cairngorms and spans an area of approximately 23,350 hectares (57,700 acres) with altitudes ranging between 640ft (200m) and 2580ft (804m) above sea level.
The area boasts an extensive 100 mile waymarked network of walking and cycling routes including the Tomintoul Spur of the Speyside Way. Trail head signs, wildlife hides, car parks and picnic areas are also provided. The Estate Information Centre houses interpretive displays and provides information on estate activities and visitor services. An information point and 25 other information boards are located at picnic sites and other roadside locations around the estate.
