Il est 20h30, le 3 septembre 1942, lorsque les Allemands commencent à quadriller le quartier des Marolles, pour procéder à une rafle. En encerclant le quartier, les autorités nazies coupent toute possibilité de fuite, pendant que les autres effectifs sillonnent les rues, s'introduisant dans les immeubles et maisons afin d'y déloger les étrangers juifs, qui y résident. Une fois la fouille des habitations réalisée et les familles amenées au point de rassemblement, les soldats nazis inscrivent sur les portes des bâtiments le mot "Judenrein" : "sans juif". By surrounding the district, the Nazi authorities cut off any possibility of escape, while the other troops crisscrossed the streets, entering buildings and houses to dislodge the Jewish foreigners living there. Once the houses had been searched and the families brought to the assembly point, the Nazi soldiers inscribed on the doors of the buildings the word "Judenrein": "without Jews".
