This beautiful, wild, wet and windswept area of the Cambrian Mountains is often known as the empty quarter due to the surrounding 400km2 of open mountainside where no one lives. It's also a little devoid of caches so I have attempted to amend that! The four that I have placed can be combined with three other existing caches to make an incredible high level and committing route from Abergwesyn in the southwest to Elan Village to the north east or in separate loops from Abergwesyn or Elan Village.
Warning: These caches are located in open mountain terrain and should only be attempted if you are suitably experienced and equipped for the challenge. Weather in the mountains can change in minutes; particularly in this area and you should be prepared for all eventualities. Although the caches are all placed on paths, these are intermittent at times and often boggy or "tussocky" making the walking even harder. In misty conditions, your navigation skills will be well tested and you should be comfortable with navigating featureless terrain using a map and compass rather than relying on your GPS.
This cache is located close to the nameless lower of the two magnificent cairns on Drygarn's summit. With the highest point being Drygarn Fawr, I'd humbly suggest that this should really be named as Drygarn Fach in traditional welsh fashion. The cache is a 35mm container hidden in a relatively obvious location - the challenge is getting here not finding the cache!
