Geocache Description:

Craigfall Viewpoint

This is the first geocache that we have placed, and we thank the National Trust of Scotland for their kind permission in allowing us to place this on their estate. We dedicate it to our beautiful, beloved, bouncy, Bernese mountain dog ‘Ingin’. Who has accompanied us on many caching adventures and still doesn’t understand why we would interrupt a perfectly good walk for something you can’t even eat!

A steep grass path through wood and farmland leads up Craigfall Hill to an impressive viewpoint. A walk up here rewards you with a stunning view of Leith Hall and the surrounding hills of Mither Tap, Tap o’ Noth and the Correen Hills.

An information board in Leith Hall car park gives details of the waymarked walks; the Craigfall Trail begins by turning left (towards stables) when facing the hall itself.

Follow the track up the hill passed the curved stable building. At the top cross tthe road and go through the gate to start on the yellow marked trail. The trail leads up a flight of steps, and continues up a slightly steep path to the kissing gate waypont.

Please be sure to put any dogs on a lead before going through the gate as a local farmer often has sheep in the field.

Once through the gate it's only a short walk to another kissing gate at the other side, and any dogs can have their leads removed again.

Follow the left path at the fork as It climbs up through an area of Craigfall wood. At the top is a stone enclosure with a viewpoint, that was erected with the help of some kids from the Gordon Schools a number of years ago. The outlook is brilliant on a clear day, stretching from the Hill of Dunnideer and Bennachie and taking in Ardmore Distillery and right round to the Tap O' Noth. It makes the trip worthwhile, and is an added bonus when visitiing Leith hall.

The cache is nearby and not in or part of the viewpoint stonework.

Have fun, and happy hunting!
