The third event in a series of monthly events taking place in different squares of the Dartmoor 365; the square chosen at random by pulling out a square at each event. The square pulled out for this month is E18: Willingstone Rock. The event will start at around midday at the given co-ordinates for geo-chat, TB exchanging etc. People are free to come and go as they please. Skittles and I will be there until around 1pm. We will be wearing our hi-vis so people can see where to aim for!
Parking for this one is a little bit of an issue as there isn't many places around, and even fewer for multiple cars. I have placed the parking waypoint at the parking spot for Cranbrook Hill Fort. There are parking spots further afield but they will involve quite a walk so I'd advise checking out parking, and if possible coming up with either your own or back ups incase any fill up.
Willingstone Rock is a granite boulder/outcrop located on the private property of Willingstone Farm. Unfortunately it appears that this Dartmoor square mile must have been seen as pretty dull by John Hayward as other than being a subjectively attractive rock, albeit unexceptional for Dartmoor, there is really little of note regarding this rock. The only thing of note mentioned by the author was a weather vane located on top (although I have no idea of this is surviving today).
Partly because of the pretty uninterestingness of Willingstone Rock, but also to find a safe/accessible location to hold an event this one will be hosted on the lower slopes of Butterdon Hill, just over the road from Willingstone Rock should anyone wish to pop over to see it.
The square for April which was also pulled at the Q16 event (to keep the events rolling in case of issues) is A11 (not a fix we promise).
