The vertical rock faces are not very high and the quarrying is intermingled with un-quarried land, making the area look more natural than a more severely quarried area.
As you walked to this location from the South Parking Lot, did you notice the large number of standing, but dead pine trees? A Southern Pine Beetle infestation killed them in 2017. When this type of die-off occurs in a forested area of mixed pine and hardwood trees , it hastens the transition to a totally hardwood climax forest. The die-off in this area of abundant sunshine will result in pine trees continuing to be the predominant tree species.
During September, this area has a brilliant daisy floral display.
Park at the Arabia Mountain Nature Center Parking Lot on Klondike road. Take the Mountain Top Trail, marked by rock cairns, till your GPSr indicates you should leave the trail. Follow the rock outcrop to the cache.
