AMNHA: Quarry Office Building

Cache Info: This is a medium sized plastic container with a screw on lid and a secondary water seal lid.

This building, built in 1910 by Arabia Granite Company, was the administrative site for all quarry operations, both east and west of Klondike Road. Due to the barred windows, visitors often think the building was once used as a jail. The windows were barred as a security measure to safeguard office equipment and weekly payrolls for quarry workers.

When the rail line to the quarry was discontinued in the mid 1930’s, quarry stone was then hauled to Lithonia by truck rather than by rail. At about that time, a truck weigh station was built in front of the office building. You can view the remains of the weigh station.

Park at the Arabia Mountain Nature Center Parking Lot on Klondike Road. Take the bike path south to the cache.
