About Warwick Farm Racecourse
The Warwick Farm Racecourse branch was a 1.6 km line from the main south line to the racecourse, owned by the Australian Jockey Club. The branch left the Main South line near Warwick Farm station. It then crossed Hume Highway at a level crossing before ending at the Racecourse station alongside Governor Macquarie Drive. The line had a 200m Horse Dock platform, and facilities for storing up to 8 trains. Race day special trains from North Sydney and the city were able to bring racegoers to the racecourse entrance. This 1.63 kilometre branch line was owned by the Australian Jockey Club and operated by CityRail and its predecessors. The Branch was closed in 1991. Warwick Farm is one of three Sydney horse racing tracks and there is a lot of new development in the area with the new Inglis Riverside Stables.
Warwick Farm will also be remembered as a fantastic car racing track. It became a major track in the 1960s and hosted major events such as the Australian Grand Prix, Australian Touring Car Championship and Tasman Series. It hosted the Australian Grand Prix on four occasions in 1963, 1967, 1970 and 1971. In the early 1970s it conducted a round of the South Pacific Series for Production cars. The last major race at Warwick Farm was the final round of the 1973 Australian Touring Car Championship on 15 July and the circuit closed in August.
The Tasman Series hosted Formula One drivers during the European winter with races in New Zealand and Australia. Famous drivers included Jack Brabham, Graham Hill and Jim Clark. I have many wonderful memories of standing at Creek Corner cheering my heroes. Australian drivers including Peter and Leo Geoghegan, Norm Beechey, Frank Matich, Kevin Bartlett and Allan Moffatt were here of course.

Sydney Harbour Bridge
From the cache you should be (almost) able to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This one was used in the 1987 Rugby League Grand Final as part of the half time entertainment. Peter Warren decided to buy the bridge and place it at the entrance to his car yard. He took great pride in keeping the grounds immaculate, as they still are. It was going to be there for about six months but soon became an important landmark so remains today.
