When Seiroku Honda who is said to be the father of the park of Japan visited this valley at the beginning of the Showa era, he named here "Arashiyama of Musashi country" because it resembled the scenery of Arashiyama in Kyoto closely. Then this became the sensation and many tourists came to visit here. A long line of the torist toward Ranzan ravine from Musashi-Ranzan station of the Tobu tojyo line occured.
日本の公園の父と言われている本多静六が昭和の初めにこの渓谷を訪れ、ここが京都の嵐山の風景によく似ていることから“武蔵国の嵐山（あらしやま）”と命名しました。これが契機で嵐山渓谷は大評判になり、多くの観光客がこの地を訪れるようになり、東武東上線の武蔵嵐山駅（当時は菅谷駅）から観光客の長い列ができたほどでした。
