Geocache Description:

The Writer's Way: Get Into Sport

East Hampshire has been home to some of Britain’s literary greats and the Writer’s Way is a great way to explore the areas that they knew so well.

This part of the Writer's Way follows in the footsteps of Jane Austen, who lived in Chawton from 1809 until 1817 during which time she wrote, revised and had published all her major works.

The cache is at the Northern end of Mounter’s Lane which is a nice footpath that joins the main part of Chawton with it’s most northern part. This northern part was left on the Alton side of the A31 Alton bypass when the road was completed back in 1971.

Jane would've been very familiar with Mounter's Lane and would know that it can get very muddy in the winter!

She wouldn't have been so familiar with the Alton Sports Centre which now stands on the site - It may not have been around in Jane's day but I've been inspired by the current Winter Olympics in South Korea!

Please be very careful of the roads leading in and out of the busy Sports Centre Carpark!.

The cache is now a small plastic container.. There's only space for very small swaps and bring your own pen please.
