During World War II, German submarines were rumored to be patrolling the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. In order to protect local oil reserves, two large 155 mm cannons were placed atop the dunes in Port Aransas to guard against the subs entering the Corpus Christi ship channel. The ruins of these gun placements, including the rails upon which they rotated, are still visible today.
Congrats to Jimmy G and Toni G for claiming my little FTF token.
