this has always been one of my favorite places along the trails in FDR state park.
there are 3 fish hatchery ponds in this area that were built by the CCC in the 1938 with the thought of raising trout. however in 1940 they realized itwasn't cold enough year round and the hatcheries were abandoned. depending on recent rains, depends on any water levels in the pond where this cache is located. I have seen it dry with no water, and very full to the point of nearly topping the dam. Ive never seen water in the smaller pond stay for any length of time and is quickly absorbed by the earth after it rains. the 3rd pondI beilieve was fed by the creek and has experienced major damage to the dam over the years which has created a breach and a small portion of the dam is missing, however the creek still runs through it.
