Tijdens de oorlog gingen de Duitsers over tot het bouwen van stellingen. Hiervoor hadden ze heel wat materiaal nodig. Om dit materiaal ter plaatse te krijgen, werd een complex netwerk van spoorwegen aangelegd. Op deze locatie bevond zich pionierpark ‘In de Ster. Het was een van de grootste stockageplaatsen van zijn tijd. Van hieruit vertrokken tonnen materiaal naar Duitse stellingen.
