Farnborough Flannel #1 - George Cross
Wednesday 28th March from 7pm to 9pm
The Plough & Horses, 90 Fleet Road, Cove, Farnborough, Hampshire, GU14 9RG, Tel 01252 545199
The first of a series of irregular meets for cachers to get together, chat about caching and to swap/discover TBs and GeoCoins. This is a friendly meet open to all cachers, so if it's your first meet please come along and meet like minded people. The Pub does good food at reasonable prices and I use this Pub for hosting the local Hampshire Meets
I have added 'George Cross' in the Event title because on this date in 1942, King George VI awarded the people from the small Mediterranean island of Malta the George Cross Medal for Bravery saying "To honour her brave people I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta, to bear witness to a heroism and a devotion that will long be famous in history." The Island had been under constant attack by Italian and German bombers and Messerschmitts machine guns since June 1940 because of it's strategic location for both the North Africa campaign and the European Campaign, Food supplies and health and hygiene became a serious problem as the ships that would normally supply the Island were sunk by the enemy before they bring in new supplies.
