Llanharan Marsh is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC)

Location and Access Notes
Situated between the villages of Brynna, Llanharan and Bryncae, 2.5 km northeast of Pencoed. Access is gained via the gate at the West of the reserve off Brynna road, or by the gate on the East from Bethlehem View. The reserve is bordered to the south by a railway line, with access into the woodland from Bryncae via the level crossing.

Brynna Woods and Llanharan Marsh

Brynna woods comprises of 38ha of secondary, and some ancient, semi-natural woodland, scrub, marshy grassland, dry grassland and ruderal habitats.

The watercourse of Ewenni Fach runs through the area from east to west, and several smaller streams also run through the site from north to south, feeding down into the Ewenni Fach. The main line of the Great Western Railway forms the southern boundary of the site, and a disused railway line forms the northern boundary.

There are a number of public footpaths and bridleways on site, also two circular walks taking in the lovely mix of countryside.
More information on the site can be found at https://www.welshwildlife.org/nature-reserve/brynna-woods-and-llanharan-marsh/

Megan Howells - a People and Wildlife Officer from Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales will attend to supervise (for Health and Safety) and to help out. She will show us what needs to be done and bring any tools etc that are needed. But please bring your own gloves

She will let us know closer to the time what tasks will be required as it can change dependent on what is most urgently needed for the reserve, but is likely to be general light maintenance eg litter picking

Directions
By Train: Llanharan station is within a 2 minute walk from the entrance at Bethlehem view
From the West: Leave the M4 at J35, take A473 towards Pencoed, go through the next three roundabouts taking the second exits, this will take you on to Brynna Road. Follow this road for approx 1 mile and turn right into woodlands, the site will be signposted from there.
From the East: Leave the M4 at J34, take the A4119 north. Take the first exit at the large roundabout on to the A473, and follow the road, taking the first exit at the next 2 roundabouts, then straight over the next 2 roundabouts. As you enter Llanharan there is a sharp bend to the left, take the turning just after the traffic island on the bend, on to Chapel Road, past the train station and then 1st left into Bethlehem View

Posted co-ords will take you to a clearing where there will be a logbook to 'sign-in' before activities commence.

Please let me know (either via GC or on the South Wales Geocachers fb page) if you wish to attend but may have travel issues, as we marvellous South Wales geocachers will try and help out with lifts where possible!

Please log a will attend so we can have a clear idea of numbers - Hopefully this could progress into a regular(ish) CITO event at various locations throughout South Wales
