Derivation :
 Invented by Sir Walter Scott for a character in his novel 'Ivanhoe' (1819). Apparently he based it on the actual name Cerdic, the name of the semi-legendary founder of the kingdom of Wessex in the 6th century.

This series of 10 caches are around the footpaths, bridleways and lanes of Cheshire. The circular route is approximately 5km / 3 miles in length and involved just over 100m / 350 feet of ascent and descent. The best parking area is at Kings Gate Car Park (see waypoint on GC7JW9V, for co-ordinates) where the walk commences. As part of the walk is on roads and lanes without pavements, take special care with geo-kids and geo-dogs and keep your eyes and ears open for traffic and muggles; you never know, you may even catch sight of a Gnome!
