Geocache Description:

Bays Mountain Park

Bays Mountain Park, located in beautiful Kingsport, Tennessee, is a 3,550-acre nature preserve and the largest city-owned park in the state of Tennessee. Offering a variety of features, visitors to Bays Mountain Park can enjoy a picturesque 44-acre lake, a Nature Center with a state-of-the-art Planetarium Theater, Animal Habitats featuring wolves, bobcats, raptors and reptiles, and an Adventure Ropes Course complete with a 300-ft. zip line. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the park’s 38 miles of trails for hiking, running, sight-seeing, exploration, mountain biking and geocaching.

Things to know about Bays:

  • There is a $5.00 parking fee per car per day.

  • There are many types of caches in the park, Traditional, Multi, Mystery, Earth, Letterbox. and Wherigo.

  • While the park is open daily (with the exceptions of Christmas & New Year's Day), the operating hours change seasonally and gates are locked during closing times.

  • There are various hazards which include black bears, venomous snakes, poison ivy and other critters which may or may not be a problem for you while on your adventure. Prepare accordingly.

  • Geodogs (on leashes) are welcome to explore with you on this trail, but are not permitted in the animal enclosure areas. Look for the signs to indicate those areas.

  • This cache and cache location has been placed with the full approval of the park director.

The cache is located on Chinquapin Trail, which can be accessed a couple different routes. Chinquapin trail is primarily a biking trail, and as such it has lots of curves and small ups and downs along it's route. While it often seems an illogical route for a hiker, it sure makes for a more exciting ride for the bikers. Please visit the link for the park to plan your adventure.

Just a few feet off the trail, you will be seeking a small lock'n'lock, camo painted and well marked as a Geocache. Please hide back as you found, or better. Enjoy yourself, and happy caching!
