PUZZLE:

While hiking the mountain again today we saw four other people and spoke to one of them that had already been up on the ledge. Some were wearing earbuds listening to music, however we like to hear the sound of nature. If you look closely at the ledge (especially in winter) you could see the face of the cliff makes a "two"

We saw one hawk at the top of the mountain that soared below the tree line. We ending up hiking over six miles today and with hiking five miles just a couple of days ago our legs were feeling the burn. There seemed to be six bodies of water that we needed to traverse over as we headed away from the area we hid this cache in.

Campbell's Ledge is considered a famous local landmark in Northeast PA. It is a dramatic cliff that rises almost seven hundred feet above the Susquehanna River. Although privately owned, public hiking and hunting are allowed. You may get to see these five areas as you hike here; reservoirs, old mines, big rocks, quartz caves, and waterfalls.

This was my fourth hike up this mountain and each time I seem to find something new that is interesting and beautiful. When you stand on the top of Dial Rock, sometimes called Campbell's Ledge, you are at the northern end of Wyoming Valley. From the seven hundred feet view above the Susquehanna River you can look across the Susquehanna River to view the towns of West Pittston and Pittston. On a clear day you can see all the way to Wilkes-Barre.

Campbell's Ledge is within the five townships of the Susquehanna Land company and is located about point three miles south of the center of the nearby Campbell's Ledge Reservoir which you can see from this geocache hide. We did take a break and ate lunch at the reservoir taking pictures and soaking in the great views and nature.

The stories for the name: A legend claims that a man named Campbell is chased by hostile Native Americans to the ledge, and, rather than risk capture, he jumps off. The other story origin is traced to Thomas Campbell, the author of Gertrude of Wyoming.
