La Fontana dei Mascheroni è situata all'inizio di Viale XX Settembre ed è una fontana moderna, costruita nel 2004 da Luciano Celli.
La costruzione rappresenta il dio romano a doppia faccia, Giano. Al centro della vasca si trova un pilastro sul quale sono situate le due facce del dio Giano. Sul pilastro sono incastonate anche delle pietre e dalle bocche delle due facce escono dei getti d'acqua.
Giano è il dio degli inizi, materiali e immateriali, ed è una delle divinità più antiche e più importanti della religione romana, latina e italica. Solitamente è raffigurato con due volti, poiché il dio può guardare il futuro e il passato ma anche perché, essendo il dio delle soglie, può guardare sia all'interno sia all'esterno.
Il luogo e spesso punto di incontro, ed e quindi spesso pieno di babbani, quindi se sono un problema è consigliato venire la mattina o la sera tarda

The Fountain of the Masks is placed at the beginning of Viale XX Settembre (XX September Avenue) and it's a modern fountain, built in 2004 by Luciano Celli. That construction represents the Roman two-faced god Janus. At the centre of the pool is placed a pillar on which the two faces are located. On the pillar are encrusted some rocks and from the tow faces mouths water comes out.
Janus is the god of beginnings, materials and immaterial, and he's one of the oldest and more important divinities of roman, latin and italic religions. Usually, he's portrayed with two faces, because the god can see the future and the past, but also because, being the god of thresholds, he can see both indoor and outdoor. The place is a meeting point of Trieste, so it's often full of muggles. If it's a problem it's suggested to come in the morning or at late night
