Whitecourt's First Letterbox Hybrid
What is a Letterbox? Letterboxing is another form of treasure hunting that uses clues instead of coordinates. Learn more here.
What makes this a hybrid? In some cases, the letterbox owner has made their container both a letterbox and a geocache and posted its coordinates on Geocaching.com.
How does this cache type work? These types of geocaches will contain, an often hand-carved, rubber stamp that is meant to remain in the box and occasionally contain an ink pad these are then used by letterboxers (and geocachers) to record their visit. The person looking to log these cache types is encouraged to bring there own unique stamp and a journal/logbook. Once you have found the cache by following the clues, make an imprint of the letterbox’s stamp on your personal logbook and leave an imprint of your personal stamp on the letterbox’s logbook. As you adventure continue to collect stamps at various other Letterbox locations and keep a tangible record of your adventures.
What if I don't have a stamp? While collecting the stamps is part of the Letterboxing fun (for both the finders and the CO) you can still write in the logbook as you would with any other geocache type! But please take the time to acquire a stamp we look forward to collecting them.
Why here? The location has been awesome in helping our local caching group host various meetings and gatherings seemed only fitting that there be a geocache here.
There is ink at the location and should be fine to use all year round regardless of weather.
- Park near the posted coordinates.
- Find the Container it has your letterbox instructions inside (its small, would fit nicely in your hand)
- Happy caching, Good luck
That should be it, that should be all I really hope you did not fall. Leave your mark, a stamp is best. Then place it back for those who are next!
Be sure to use the #ABCache when sharing your Alberta based geocaching adventures Happy caching!
