Motuihe Island is a beautiful island that is being replanted with native plants, and native birds have been introduced back to the island. It is a pleasure to walk around and with many cross roads between service tracks and walking tracks.
Motuihe Island throughout history has been used for many different purposes. Maori days there were a couple of Pa sites, Europeans cleared it for farming before it was a quarantine station. The armed forces took it over during the wars for training before the Trust took it over and began its regeneration back to its origins.
