Geocache Description:

The Village Pharmacy - one of the world's most beneficial plants.  The neem tree is indigenous to the Indian subcontinent, typically grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions.  A fast growing evergreen, related to the mahogany,

This particular specimen was planted here from seeds brought from Montserrat in 1975, it has grown to quite a size and provides a shaded area here in the park for visitors to sit a while in the shade.

According to Siddha and Ayurvedic practitioners, the plant has numerous health benefits and contains wide-ranging properties believed to be anthelmintic, antifungal, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antiviral, contraceptive, and sedative in character.

The leaves are dried in India and placed in cupboards to prevent insects eating the clothes, and also in tins where rice is stored.  Leaves are dried and burnt in the tropical regions to keep away mosquitoes, but I've yet to try this out.  Neem oil is used for preparing cosmetics such as soap, shampoo, balms, and creams as well as toothpaste, so very much the village pharmacy!

In order to find this simple, off-set multi-cache you must locate the information plaque near the tree and also take note of some items also located in the park.
