Boundary Bay Airport (CZBB) was established as a training centre during World War II, in 1941. After the war, it operated as a base for radio equipment and signals intelligence. The base was deactivated in the 1971, but re-opened in 1983 as a municipal airport. Numerous flying schools operate here, with many student pilots earning their wings here, myself included. In terms of "aircraft movements" (the number of planes coming and going), it is actually the 5th busiest airport in Canada!
If anyone remembers "Relic" of "The Beachcombers", you may not realize that actor Robert Clothier was a pilot who flew bombers during WW2, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). In 1944, while serving as a flight instructor, he was the pilot of a Mitchell bomber that crashed on take-off from Boundary Bay Airport. Clothier was the only survivor, but this did not deter his love of flying, he flew as a private pilot for many years afterwards.
Hungry geocachers and air crew can find food in the nearby Terminal building, and watch the planes go by.
This area is occasionally used by movie crews, so the muggles might be too thick at such times.
