Wildwood - Purple Trail Cache Traditional Cache
Starkacher: This one is indeed missing and there is not a suitable place to hide a replacement within a reasonable distance. I have scouted a couple of places further away, but will have to go through the permit process on those and will likely wait until spring.

Welcome to Wildwood and the "PURPLE" trail.
This segment of trail is one of my favorites in the park as it offers some fantastic closeup views of a nice ravine. Be sure to walk the entire segment between the Blue and Red trails to see why I like it.
Please return out of sight from the trail.
For more than 40 years, I have called this short cut between the Blue and Red trails, the "PURPLE" trail. The reason: if you mix Blue and Red, you get Purple. For most of that time, it was not an officially designated trail.
About 20 or so years ago, the Metroparks made this segment an official trail and called it the "Red-Blue Connector Trail". I thought: "Well they are getting closer", but I will still called it the Purple trail. At that time there was no Purple trail at Wildwood so why wouldn't they just call it Purple?
Well, a couple of years ago they finally listened to me. At least, that is my reality, whether it is true or not. While updating the trails/markers, they added the short connector trail to the existing Orange Prairie trail and changed the color to Purple. So PURPLE is now the official color of this trail. The fact that the Purple trail now extends well beyond why I called it Purple, I just have to accept.
Placed with permission from the Toledo Area Metroparks: Permit: WW-61-18
