Geocache Description:

Groundspeak have arranged their International Bi-Annual CITO week from 21st-29th April 2018 when many geocachers will be gathering together to show our appreciation for all the pleasure we have roaming our world looking for various plastic pots and other containers! For those who have not heard of a CITO event before, this simply stands for Cache-in-and-Trash-Out – or in English a chance to volunteer to pick up the rubbish that gets simply left to spoil our countryside! Everyone including children and DOGS ON LEADS are welcome.

THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY 29TH APRIL 2018 PROMPTLY AT 2pm and end at 3.30pm at the given coords, which are for the FREE CARPARK at Joney’s Cross on the A3052 just west of Newton Poppleford at Hawkerland Common.
Kate Ponting, Clinton Devon Estates' Countryside Learning Officer has suggested this site on Hawkerland Common, part of the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths, one of the most important conservation areas in Europe. A litter sweep is welcomed prior to livestock arriving on this Common for the first time for many years.

This is a great opportunity for geocachers to work in partnership with the Pebblebed Heath Conservation Trust and get involved in practical conservation of this important habitat.

Kate will introduce the site and give a safety briefing. PLEASE ALLOW TIME FOR PARKING AND GETTING READY PRIOR TO 2pm START. The Conservation Trust will provide rubbish grabbers and refuse bags. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN GLOVES and consider wearing clothing suitable for working amongst gorse! Dogs on leads welcome. I will also supply handwipes and will have the log book to sign.

Finally as an incentive – I will bring a cake or other high calorie munchies!!!
PS Even more important is that you will earn a Groundspeak Souvenir for attending this event, as well as a smilie icon on your geomap!
