Welcome to the Wonderful World of Benchmarks!
==============================================
Ever since I started Geocaching, I've never stopped. It's a great hobby that keeps me engaged and I don't find myself quitting anytime soon. Sadly, just as every Geocacher knows, there comes a time when you've pretty much found everything in your local area. Well, with the exception of that very difficult puzzle that's impossible to solve, of course (y'all know what I'm talking about). That's exactly where I'm at right now. Because of work, my Geocaching is limited to only the weekends when I have time to travel farther out of my area. It's a bummer that I cannot hunt as much as I wish to. That was the case unil recently, when I found out about another quest offered by the Geocache HQ.
I just recently stumbled into the world of benchmark hunting. The Geocache website lists thousands of benchmarks that you can find. There are hundreds upon hundreds in Lee County alone. Searching for them is a fun alternative to continue hunting when searching for caches is not an option.
Now finding benchmarks isn't as easy as going to the posted coordinates. Most of the time, the coordinates are very inaccurate due to using outdated datum. So you'll have to read the posted survey notes in order narrow down your search. To learn more about bencmark hunting, check out this link:
