Beyond this gate is a 4 mile long paved "driveway" leading to Oprah's home on the slopes of Haleakala. The road passes through Haleakala Ranch and would provide a great shortcut from Kihei to Kula if you could convince Oprah to give you a key to the gate 
For safety this cache should only be accessed when driving northbound on the highway. Do not make a left turn across the double yellow lines and do not try to cross this busy highway on foot. Parking is available near the gate. DO NOT CROSS THE FENCE.

We have always been puzzled that, from the logs, it has appeared that some cachers have been finding a larger container that they believe to be the cache and signing a log. On 10/26/21 we decided to investigate and to our surprise, about 50' from our cache we found an old fashion "Letterbox" dating back to February 2016!! It is called "Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy convenience". For those of you who don't know, Letterboxing is a game that predates geocaching. It does not use GPS. Generally a letterbox will contain a stamp that you use to stamp your logbook AND a logbook that you can stamp with your personal stamp. This Letterbox contains a hand carved stamp of a boot. The cache is much smaller and is about 50' ESE
