Geocache Description:

No dogs please. Kids welcome. I am very excited to offer this CITO event to geocachers in our communities. I have been searching for newer, more interesting CITO possibilities, and reached out to local trail associations to see if they had any maintenance needs. I was contacted by the Halifax North West Trails Association and offered this great opportunity.

Every year in the spring, they do light maintenance on one of their smallest trails, the Mainland Common Loop Trails. The loop is only 1 km, and the maintenance will consist of raking and spreading new wood chips over the trail. All they ask of geocachers is to help rake the sides of the trail, and then spread the wood chips along the trail. Really easy work.

The event is expected to only take two hours.

The schedule:

8:45 am - Meet at parking lot, sign log book, and get ready

9:00 am - Maintenance starts

11:00 am - Maintenance anticipated to be done

Note:

HNWTA want the trail to be as dry as possible, so in case of inclement weather, we will postpone to Saturday, April 28

Provided:

  • Some rakes
  • Wood chips in bags (easy enough to carry)
  • One wheelbarrow

Geocachers please bring:

  • Proper work clothing that you won't mind getting dirty
  • Work gloves
  • Work boots or hiking boots
  • For the ambitious only - Extra rakes for yourself or others, if you have them
  • For the extra ambitious - Extra wheelbarrow, if you have one

If the event has to be postponed to the following weekend, we will announce it at least 24 hours in advance. Hopefully, that won't happen.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

This event is part of the 2018 Spring Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) Week.
