#28 Sunshine Coast traffic signal box art trail
Â
The unassertive traffic signal box is often overlooked as it sits at intersections and roadsides in metropolitan areas. Urban Smart Projects, a community art initiative, has made it their mission to bring colour and art to cities and help fight graffiti. (www.urbansmartprojects.com)
Follow this trail around the Sunshine Coast and admire the original designs reflecting the vibrancy, character and stories of the community. I have included a statement from each artist about their artwork. The geocaches on this trail should be fairly quick to find to prevent cachers being too conspicuous searching in these high muggle traffic zones.

The Race â Around Old Woman Island â painted by Dwayne Allen â March, 2012. Each Sunday in the waters of Mooloolaba you can see these yachts in the water racing to Old Woman Island and back again.
Find the signal box at the listed co-ordinates and collect some information by observing carefully.
Â
A = number of yachts under bare poles on the signal box times 2
B = number of orange buoys in the water minus 1
C = number of multihull yachts in the race depicted on the signal box
D = total number of boats on the signal box divided by 2
E = number of blue sails (count mainsails and jibs) times the number of green sails
The cache is at S26â° AB.AAC E153â° CD.EDC

Update July 2025: As the signal box artwork has now been painted over, those of you who have not been able to find photos of the original artwork to do the above calculations, can go to Waypoint 1 & glean some other information from the sign there
A = number of times the letter L appears on the sign
B = number of times the word Prohibited is on the sign
C = number of vessels allowed to anchor in this area
D = number of letters in the fifth word on the sign
E = number of times the letter A appears on the sign
Use the same puzzle co-ordinates as above
You are seeking a 500mL purple container hidden in a park with a nice view of some more boats. There wonât be much racing seen from here though. Make use of the picnic table to take a break and enjoy the scenery. Room for swaps and small travel bugs. BYO pen.
