Der Vorteil der digitalen Technik beim Eisenbahn-Modellbau ist, dass mehrere Züge auf einem Gleis unabhängig voneinander fahren können. Neben dem Fahrstrom werden zusätzlich Codierungen übertragen, die der Lok mitteilen, ob sie fährt oder steht. In der analogen Welt müsste man für jeden Zug ein eigenes Oval bauen.
