Church Micro 11478...Poplar - All Saints Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Short multi at this beautiful church.

Part of Sadexploration's Church Micro series.

All Saints' Church is the C of E parish church of Poplar. It was built in 1821-3 to serve the newly created parish. The church was designated a Grade II listed building on 19 July 1950.

A relatively expensive church for the period, All Saints was built from granite and Portland stone by the engineer Thomas Morris (whose grave lies outside to the north of the Church door). The initial budget was £20,000 but the whole project cost just over £33,000.

The Church took a leading role in cementing the community of this targeted area of dockland during the Blitz of the Second World War. Many of the finest edifices of Poplar were destroyed and bombs constantly damaged the Church building, although this did not dissuade hundreds of people from using the crypt as an air-raid shelter. Late in the war, however, a V-2 rocket devastated the building, destroying the east end and bringing down the roof. Post-war restoration in the 1950s saw the removal of the galleries and the placing of a new organ gallery at the west end, equipped with choir stalls and housing the large reconditioned organ brought from Clapham Congregational Church.

The cache

At the given co-ordinates, a few paces north of the gate, you must find a small square metal tag attached to the railings, at about waist height. The tag is best found whilst standing on the pavement. This tag is stamped with two digits AB.

Now walk to the back of the church, remaining outside (Waypoint provided). High up on the back wall is a large plaque to commemorate the consecration on the C day of the D month.

The cache is located at:

North 51 30.(A+B) (D+C-A) (B-A-C) West 000 00.(B+C) (B-C) (D-B)

Please search sensibly, the cache is not on any private property, and should be retrieved whilst standing on the pavement. A stealthy grab may be required as muggles may approach from various directions! Please replace carefully and securely. HAPPY HUNTING!
