I started the Johnny Appleseed series about three months ago as I watched my caching karma droop over the years, and felt the need to give back, and explore the local trails in a different perspective. Since those 50 caches were placed, my karma has doubled from 0.35 to over 0.70, so I'm starting round two, sprinkling caches along the trails just a bit farther from home.
You've made it to the top of Black Mountain! Whether you've come from the western Monte Bello trailhead (3 miles), the Waterwheel parking lot to the east (parking requires a free permit, available from the Open Space webpage), from Rancho San Antonio, 2000 feet below, or you've cheated and driven your park ranger 4-wheeler right to the top, you've earned the views! On this side, you'll get even better views than on the bay side, even ocean views! Hopefully you'll also view the cache, which is nestled among the rocks.
Congratulations to catomcat for another JAS FTF!
Good luck, enjoy the trail, and remember it is good to give back!
