Eighteen months ago, on a Southland spring day, mr and mrs became mrandmrs at Greenhills Church.
A month later we placed our first joint cache, Greenhills Connection, at the Colyers Island footbridge. Obviously it had a bit of meaning to us, that we wanted to share with the caching community.
Following some wet weather, this coastal location has become more exposed and the container is no longer there.
Given some Scottish connections for both mr and mrs, mr thought lets try a golf links field puzzle (a non-golfer's grand imagining of a par five hole at The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Fife)
Thus, this new multi-cache has a number of strokes, with a distinct physical marker where the ball comes to rest at the end of each shot.
Find the stage marker, and create a waypoint on your device: move away from the waypoint the distance indicated to find the next stage marker (actual coordinates are not critical, as the puzzle is about distances from prior marker).
Posted coordinates are a carpark, with the tee at the "1886" marker.
(create digital waypoint 1886)
From the tee, the #1 wood sends the first shot an awesome 651m drive, towards the rising sun, and coming to rest at a weathered post (#1) just above high water
(create digital waypoint #1)
The 4 iron sends next shot a fair 162m, with a roll at the end, the ball finds a post with wet feet (#2)
(create digital waypoint #2)
The next shot swings across to the boundary, a decent 189m away (#3)
(create digital waypoint #3)
A wedged chip gets 95m away from the boundary, into the rough, and to an unsighted marker post (#4)
(create digital waypoint #4)
Imagining the green and flag to the east, 128m away, an opportune final stroke is taken
(cache is hidden )
This field exercise occurs to the east of the railway line, and all markers are on publicly accessible property (no fence crossing or entering into farmers' paddocks)
Mr enjoyed having Mrs assistance in identifying good markers, and laying out this par five links hole.
Although, patchy data coverage made it challenging to double check
We hope you enjoy this links experience ...
... as we did when we linked up eighteen months ago
