Geocache Description:

西部林道は屋久島で唯一、海岸線から世界自然遺産に指定されている地域です。
絶滅危惧種ヤクタネゴヨウの自生地としても最大の地域で、標高300メートルより上には多くのゴヨウマツが見られます。
昔、人が暮していた地域もあり、炭焼きの跡などが見られます。一本の木でジャングルのように広がるガジュマルの巨木も見られます。ヤクザルやヤクシカなどとの出会いも期待できます。
