ジョアン・バテイスタ・シドッチ神父はイタリア人の宣教師である。１７０８年、キリスト教の布教のため日本を訪れた際、最初に上陸したのが屋久島だったそうです。神父はその後捕らわれて長崎に送られて、１７１４年、４７才で亡くなったそうである。
