Geocache Description:

Deck of Cards Series

I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.

There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!

I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.

The Face cards are all located between US Rte 20 and the Mississippi River southeast of Galena. Notice that the roads are hillier near the river. East Galena and Rice Townships are where my German ancestors settled. Actually were from Prussia back before Germany was formed.

The Queens are located along Blackjack Road with one down closer to the river. This was a mining and farming area.

The  Queen of Clubs  is located at the intersection of W Sand Hill Road and S River Road.

Great river view coming down the sand hill from the Queen of Spades, Interesting buildings along the way too. Horses can be seen to the left of this cache with a riding arena.

If you turn south from here the road goes past the bottom of the ski runs. Then there are old mines in the hillside that have been sealed. The road stops at the land slide. South of the slide the road continues to Blanding. No tall vehicles! There is a low clearance tunnel that goes under the railroad tracks.

To get to the other end of the slide go to the Queen of Diamonds and take Blanding Road. Then turn onto W Diggin Hill Road to get back to S River Road.
