I wanted to place some more caches along the Grand Trunk Trail in memory of my heart dog, Bandit. There are a few gaps between other caches, a couple of which are missing, so adding these should hopefully make the trail more fun and encourage cachers to check out the entire trail.
The Grand Trunk Trail was part of the Grand Trunk Railway line for 130 years and was abandoned by CNR in 1989. In 1993 the Town of St. Marys purchased the railway right-of-way and in 1996 local volunteers banded together to raise money to transform it into a walking trail. I, for one, am forever grateful for their efforts! It's a wonderful walk which Bandit and I enjoyed many, many times over the years. It's well maintained, very scenic year round and often quite peaceful, especially in the cooler months.
I hid this cache on the north side of the trail as the south side seems to have fewer trees each time I'm here :( There are two ways to approach - through the brush starting at James St N, or hopping over the ditch (as I did to place it), the difficulty of which will vary depending on the season and recent weather.
The cache is a small camo'd lock'n'lock containing a log sheet, small swag items and a dime from Bandit taped to the bottom (please leave). BYOP.
Congrats to TheAwesomePenguins on the FTF!!
