Geocache Description:

St Andrew, Eakring

ST ANDREW, EAKRING

St Andrew, Eakring is a Grade II* listed building, achieving the status on 11 August 1961.

The church was mainly built in the C13th, C14th and C15th with a major rebuild in 1880-1881 by James Peirs St Aubyn.

The building is made up from a west tower, nave, north porch, north transept, chancel and south porch.

The west tower, built C13th and C15th has a three stage build with clock faces on the north, south and east.

The nave is late C13th and is four bays in length.

Both north and south porches have a pair of wrought iron spearheaded gates dating from C19th.

Outside, there are 5 unusual shoescrapers with hand-rails, also dating from C19th.

Inside, the 5 bay panelled oak screen, with central cross and commemerative brass, dates from 1913.

The stained glass windows in the chancel were made by Alexander Gibbs of London in 1880 and are all dedicated to William Mompossen.

The ashlar font is dated 1674 with an octagonal plinth, base, stem and coved octagonal bowl. The cover is C19th.

The pulpit also dates from 1674.

The rest of the fittings date from the 1880s re-build.

Parking is available in the church carpark 24/7 and St Andrew is usually open during the daytime.
