It's been a little while since the last log indicated something might be awry here, but I gave the river a while to recede, which it almost has. Well my attachment mechanism didn't fail - it was the whole tree, which snapped off (4ft diameter, though pretty hollow) and floated a few feet downstream. There goes my spot above water level, so bring down the curtain on this placement.
