Geocache Description:

The parish church of St. John the Baptist is next to the castle in Penhow. The original Church tower could date as far back as the early parts of the Castle and was completed in 1290 and dedicated to the Abbot of St. Maur in France, the home of the St. Maur (Seymour) family.

Following the reformation the Church was rededicated to St. John the Baptist. Although the Church has Norman foundations, it was largely rebuilt in traditional style in the early 20th Century. The Church is noted for it's peal of x bells.

To find the Cache you will need to visit the Churchyard to get the required information to work out the final co-ordinates.

Access & Parking

The church itself is accessed from a narrow farm track leading from the A48. Although there is parking by the church I have suggested parking in a large lay-by off the A48 with the church being accessible with a short walk up the lane. If you are driving up the lane please be cautious of farm vehicles and be aware that it is quite narrow. Also be careful if crossing the A48 as this is a fast dangerous road.

To Find the Cache Co-ordinates

From the path leading up to the church you will see a large memorial cross with the names (Peter Charles Gwynne Cower) 1st date =A9B4 2nd date =1CDE

How many bells does the church have F (use google if Church is Locked)

 Final coordinates are N51 36.C(E-6)(A*D) W002 (F-1)(B-2).A(F-2)E

cache is a short walk from the Church
