Geocache Description:

A quiet road side cache on the outskirts of a lovely village. It is just around a corner and close to a junction, so keep an eye on little ones and geohounds. Can be treated as a drive by, as there is a small adjacent pull in; or combined with other caches in the area, as there is abundant parking elsewhere around the village.

Caldbeck is one of the most beautiful and peaceful of all the Lakeland villages, it lies at the foot of the Northern Fells and just inside the Lake District National Park. The timeless character of the village has been preserved as a conservation area where ponies, sheep, cattle and even ducks roam freely.

The village is named after the river (Cald Beck) on which it stands. This river and its tributaries provided the water for the important industrial development of the area in the 17th and 18th centuries - woollen mills, bobbin mills, corn mills, a paper mill and a brewery. The village still reflects this former industrial activity with many of the old mill buildings still in use.

Caldbeck has lots of amenities and picturesque local walks of all standards; from easy strolls along the river side or around the village pond, to the more strenuous nearby mountains of High Pike or Carrock Fell.

This Geocache was placed with the kind permission of the ‘Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket Parish Council’. The container unscrews to open. Please be very careful when retrieving and replacing the container.

I am a massive rock music fan and aim to give clues to each of my caches with reference to one of my favourite bands: Motorhead were an English rock band that were formed in 1975, they ceased to be with the death of their only constant member, ‘Lemmy’, in December 2015. Although they insisted that they were just a rock and roll band, to many they are the archetype heavy metal band. Motorhead have influenced many bands that followed, often being considered a precursor to the NWOBHM in the late 70s and early 80s; and their fusion with punk rock helped to pioneer both thrash and speed metal.
