Geocache Description:

PARTICIPATION IN SCORING ASPECT IS STRICTLY OPTIONAL SO FEEL FREE TO FIND THE CACHE AND WATCH ALL THE ACTION FROM THE GRANDSTAND.

Welcome to the 2018 home run derby! Every Saturday morning a new cache will be released. After it is published you will have roughly a week to find it and select a slugger to represent you in that week's edition of the home run derby. Select one player and include his name in your log. The number of home runs he hits the following week (starting the Friday after cache publication) is your score; don't worry, we will handle all the scoring.

The series will be cumulative points from April through September, with a week off over the All Star break. The "catch" is every player must be unique, so FTF has choice of any player, second to find will have second pick and so on. The cache hiders will also be playing so the cache owner will select fifth each week. This is week 2 of the series (2 of 25). All scoring will take place Friday, April 6th through Thursday, April 12th. Participation in the derby is strictly optional so feel free to find the cache and watch all the action from the grandstand. Game on!

Currently the Washington Nationals play in our nation's capital. They are the fifth major league team to call DC their home because, I guess, like some people MLB can't resist coming back to the same place time after time. In 1891 we had the first incarnation of the Washington Senators who played in the American Association and the National League until 1899. They never posted a winning record and disappeared into history. A few years later the American League was formed and one of its charter members were the 2nd incarnation of the Washington Senators. They lasted until 1960 when they moved to Minnesota to become the Twins. Along the way in 1912 the short-lived United States Baseball League sprouted up temporarily and included the 3rd incarnation of the Washington Senators. They lasted a month before folding. In 1961 major league baseball insisted on putting yet another franchise in this city because, as I said, some people just have to keep using the same spot. The final version of the Senators lasted 10 years until they moved to Texas to become the Rangers.
