Sam Cheek was the candyman in Goldston NC in the 1930's for about 53 years! The white building you see near the pond was the original candy store.
A few things we've learned about Sam:
He had TWENTY 20 brothers and sisters.
He was the Mayor of Goldston for 2 terms
He wouldn't let anyone fish in his pond because he didn't want his fish getting hooked because they were his pets!
His mechanic's son remembers him putting over a million miles on his 1966 car from delivering candy across 4 counties.
Sam was a Boy Scout. This treasure was placed here by our current (2018) Cub Scout, Pack 900 and our Girl Scout, Troop 1187 in the candyman's honor. We hoped you enjoyed learning a little history of our little town of Goldston, NC
