LP#23 – The Happy Dick Inn, Abingdon, Berkshire Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

AbingdoncacherDaniel: Excuse for a walk this nice Monday morning after 9.
Is gone.
Had a few nanos. This had one. Fitzharrys had the other not 3 weeks ago. When those are anyones property and ok to take. All over.

Not messing around with caches I adopted then came back to me for this reason.
Not good place for anything. Always struggle here. Other side. Nothing sticks. Metal things but not magnetic.
I set this up and I will finish it

Done. No more.

Geocache Description:

Number 23 in a series of caches to celebrate all those local pubs that we have lost over time either to being converted for other uses such as housing or restaurants, or have been demolished and something else built on the site.

Bring a pen.

It was a pub from 1791 to 1950, it is now a private property.

Please replace in same place. other side to the old pub. Had a move over the road. Low out of sight best it can. Not many choices around here and not going to keep trying.

Say when the log book is getting full. Can then get ready another.

There were at least seven pubs on Oct street, another was the Cross Keys 100m away over the road and The Air Balloon this side down the road a bit. Also The Cock and Tree. Look up Lost Pubs of Abingdon for more information.

One here Air Balloon

The other Cross Keys

Cock and Tree 37 Ock Street

Web site on it Cock and Tree

Unknown What was this one?. Morland sign a give away

If you would like to expand this series the pub in question must meet this criteria: The pub must be closed and no longer able to operate as a pub again. Eg. The pub has been knocked down, turned into flats or a supermarket, etc.

The pub does not qualify if it is just closed or boarded up as it can still be used for its purpose and therefore not "lost" just unavailable at present.

If the location meets this criteria please contact The Cooke Family through the messaging centre here https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=e6925df2-b8d1-4661-adb9-1488a3cb414d so that they can issue your lost pub its unique number and add it to the database.

There is a facebook page I found when looking for a old photo. Happy Dick facebook

Original one of the series is here. Original

Another of the 3 is  the Fitzharris Arms

Another of the 3 is The Lantern in Steventon.
