Geocache Description:


The cache is on private property, just inside the gate.
It is located in a green plant area on the right side at the gate.
Please don't give disturbance to the owners and guests.
Don't damage plants etc.

Chitwan National Park
In the first half of the 19th century Chitwan had an area of about 2,600 km2. There were a lot of rhinos (some 800), tigers, leopards etc.
This attracted hunters from the upperclass. Due to hunting and settlement of people from the hills the number of many species declined dramaticly.
In 1957 the first law was passed to protect the habitat of the rhinos.
In 1973 the Chitwan National Park was established. It was the first National Park in Nepal.
Now the area of the park is 932 km2 and a bufferzone of 766 km2.

Nowadays Chitwan National Park is a favourite tourist destination.
Not suprisingly because there are about 700 species of wildlife (70 species of mamals, 550 species of birds).

A number of activities are possible in Chitwan National Park: jeepsafari, walking safari, elephant ride, elephant bathing, sleeping in a treehouse, canoe ride on the Rapti river, bird watching and more.
